PSTBBS
Click the start button. Go to settings.
Go to control panel. Select modems. You
will then be in a menu where it shows your installed modem or you can add a new
modem. If you need help installing your modem, check in your documentation on how to
install your modem.
Make sure that you have your dial-up adapter
and tcp/ip protocol installed. You can check this by going to the control
panel as shown above, then select network. This will show you
what is installed. If dial-up adapter and tcp/ip are not installed, from the control
panel click on add/remove programs, select windows setup,
double click on communication. There needs to be a check
mark in the dial-up networking box when you click on details. To
install you will need your windows 95/98 installation cd or diskettes.
Now that you are sure that you have your modem and
dial-up adapter installed, it is time to setup the dial-up adapter to dial to pstbbs.com.
Most new computers already have the above installed.
1. Double click My Computer from your desktop.
2. Double click Dial-Up Networking.
3. Double click Make New Connection.
4. Type a name for the computer you are dialing. Type
pstbbs in all lower case, then click Next.
5. Enter the phone number to Puget Sound TBBS. Choose
a number for your area from the following list:
New
number list for Washington State.
Do not enter the area code
but put the whole phone number in the second box over. This is useful for
those that must dial 10 digits to connect.
You must disable call waiting
if you do not want to be kicked off the internet every time someone calls you. To do
this you would usually enter an asterisk and the numbers 7 and 0. Here is an example
of what it would look like: *70 You put this before the phone number and separate it
by a comma from the phone number. Here is another example: *70, 425
555
1070. Please check with your phone co. for your code.
6. Click Next.
7. Click Finish.
8. Click on the icon, pstbbs, that you just created. Now
click on File. Click Properties. Click Server Type. The type of Dial-Up
Server should read, PPP Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet.
9. Check mark Log onto Network.
10. Check mark Enable Software Compression.
11. Check mark tcp/ip. (note: there should only be 3 check
marks on this window now.)
12. Click tcp/ip settings. Put a . (dot) in Server assigned IP
address. Put a . (dot) in Server assigned name server address. Check mark Use
IP header compression. Check mark Use default gateway on remote network.
13. Now you are done, hit OK 3 times until you get back to the icon you
made. PSTBBS.
