Setting up Windows 98 to connect to PSTBBS
Go to Start Button
Go to Programs
Go to Accessories or Internet Explorer
Go to Communications or Internet Tools if you have it
Select Internet Connection Wizard
Place a dot in the "I want to setup my Internet connection manually" Click Next
Place a dot in "I connect through a phone line and a modem" Click Next
Select your modem, generally default that shows up. Click Next
Select the Number to dial and how to dial it. Our phone numbers are Here, Phone number list for Washington State. Note: Be sure to take the check mark out of use dialing code and country code, leaving this in will make you dial the 1 for long distance. If you are in a area where you need to dial the area code without the 1 put the area code in the phone number box, i.e.: 206-555-1234 you can even put the disable call waiting (*70 in most places) then a ',' then the phone number. The comma's pause your modem to allow the features to be activated. If you are not sure which number to use, try dialing it first without a '1' and if it goes through, and you hear the funny modem tones, use it. Click Next
Enter your full email address that we agreed to( all lower case), also enter your password exactly as agreed. If you forgot you may always call us, we will then verify who is calling. Click Next
For the Connection Name enter "pstbbs" without the quotes and lower case which is used through out this configuration. Click Next
Put a dot in the Yes to setup you Internet mail. Click Next
Put a dot in Create a New Internet Mail account. Click Next
Enter your full name as the example shows like Evelyn Corbett. This is just what we will call the account and what people will see as your name when you send mail, not your e-mail address. Click Next
Enter your Email address like "richard@pstbbs.com" , no spaces. Click Next
In the next window we are a POP 3 type mail server. Our Incoming mail server is "mail.pstbbs.com" with no quotes and make sure you have the ' .' periods. The Outgoing mail server is "mail.safepages.com" also with no quotes, Click Next.
Enter your account name (your log on name, which will be the name before the @ in your dialup log on, and email address) and password on their respective lines. These are what we agreed to set you up with, remember this is case sensitive so make sure you put it in with no caps if that is how we set it up! Your password will show as ******* not the letters or numbers you type. Put a check mark in save password, if you do not check this you will always be prompted for it. This is good if you do not want your kids to read your mail <smile>. Click Finish
You are now configured to dial in, connect and read email.
At pstbbs.com you do not need to know about DNS and IP numbers as we automatically assign them to you.
If you go to My Computer and Select Control Panel and select Internet Tools. You can set your Home Page to come up to our home page. In the general tab, just type in www.pstbbs.com where it says Home page at the top. Hit apply at the bottom of the box.
Many have asked what does pstbbs stand for? It stands for Puget Sound The Bread Board System. That is what we started as back in 1978 and so now you know.....
